The Eliot is a well-built shoe. It is comfortable and feels solid on your foot. I bought this shoe looking for a more comfortable and better made alternative to Chuck Taylor's, and it does not disappoint.I tend to be rough on shoes, so I needed a pair that would stand up to abuse. The first thing I noticed with these shoes is the quality and attention to detail that Macbeth has. In contrast to the haphazard gluing and stitching of Chucks (and almost every other shoe in this price range), the stitching is clean, even, and precise; the canvas is cut and sewn to maintain the knit pattern on each surface of the shoe; and the soles are glued symmetrically to the canvas. My guess is that most folks won't care about this level of detail in how the shoes look, but the symmetry and cleanliness of the construction suggests that these shoes are were designed and made to not fall apart like other canvas shoes. The soles are also very comfortable. I spent a weekend walking for miles in just these shoes and my feet never had a moment of soreness or the feeling of walking on every stone and crack the way Chuck soles do.Yes these are more expensive than Chucks, but the difference is clear the moment you put them on.The shoes also run larger than normal, so order a size smaller than you usually wear -- it will fit perfectly.
